The 2nd Half Collaborative (2HC) was birthed to nurture spiritual and leadership formation beyond the first half of life. 2HC is a ten-month cohort for cross-cultural mission workers as they acknowledge concerns they've not adequately faced before. Through honest sharing, compassionate listening, and experiencing together simple spiritual practices, 2HC cultivates the second half of life flourishing and fruitfulness.
2HC provides a safe space to grow the inner life and to discern and live into deeply fulfilling life contributions - beyond the productivity stages of mission. 2HC was started by four long-term cross-cultural workers, covenanting as "friends on the road" who have been there for each other and now want to be there for others as well.
2HC Monthly Learning Cycle Sequence:
- Week 1 - interaction with new content, and scheduling of personal coaching/spiritual direction appointments
- Week 2 - engaging in a particular spiritual practice in the context of one's own proximate community
- Week 3 - personal reflection on that practice, including next steps to adopt consistent rhythms of inner life growth that overflow in sustainable mission engagement
- Week 4 - sharing, mutual support and prayer with a small group within the cohortWeekly learning assignments require at least 60-90 minutes, except for the Week 4 group sharing that will last 90 minutes. Cohort participants will need time throughout each month for additional reflection and practice. 2HC content will reflect major themes pertinent to the 2nd half of life:
- Identifying and letting go of our false self
- Discovering and living into deeply fulfilling life contributions
- Growing authentic practices of spiritual formation in community that will help us move toward those life contributions
- Cultivating rhythms of reflection and action for a sustainable 2nd half of life in mission.Other themes will be addressed as well, such as navigating ambiguity, disruption and loss or facing the changing needs of family. We commit to help each other grow adaptive capacity so that we can keep discerning and living into our life contributions.
